It has taken me some time, and trial and error to work out the best way for me to balance my health, maintain my weight and feel good about myself. I have finally worked out what type of movement/exercise, and eating habits worked to keep me feeling healthy and strong.
When I was in my late teens and most of my twenties I struggled with my weight. I was never really heavy but carried around a little too much weight, enough to make me feel less than beautiful. It wasn’t that I gorged out too much on junk, as I never have, but I just hadn’t found the right mix of movement and what foods worked best for me.
Now I know that a mix of yoga, Pilates, cycling, walking and swimming – outdoors whenever possible, plus a lot of fresh veg, medium protein, low carb and low sugar works best for me. I now know that if I put on a couple of kilos, all I need to do for a couple of months is increase my movement – ride my bike more often, increase my movement. I’ve never been one for ‘diets’ – as in calorie restriction type diets – so exercise is the key for me.
What works for one person is not necessarily what works for you.
