We’re moving again!
I’ve had mixed emotions about this move, partly tainted by my headspace which hasn’t been so crash hot lately. I wont delve into the details now, perhaps when I’m well and truly out the other side, but the good news is I’ve decided to change it (my headspace) and I am reaching out for help and practices to cultivate more mindfulness. I will let you know how things unfold.
But putting that aside, this is going to be an amazing opportunity for us and for the people who will be able to come join in on the exciting experiences we are creating.
My Man, Tony, has been working on site already. He’s project managing an upgrade to the site which includes design and coordination of earth works and the build and refurb of structures. He’s also dreaming up ideas for permaculture internships and eco-lifestyle retreats – more on that later.
Tony has an immense capacity for dreaming up ideas. I used to think they were all just pie in the sky, but now that I’ve known him for three years I’ve also witnessed his capacity for turning these dreams into reality. His energy and enthusiasm for creating structures and landscapes that support people, community and the arts is immense.
He has also designed and started construction on an eco-cabin for us to move into. It complies with NSW state legislation for secondary dwellings (often referred to as the granny flat requirements), is modular, and is constructed in a particular way that it can be moved if required. It’s going to be the first place I’ve ever lived that was built new and designed to be energy and water efficient. It will have many other sustainable and health-conscious aspects, so I’m pretty excited about it. I will write more on the cabin soon but for now some of the things we have included in the design include making the most of aspect – shading from the hot summer sun and welcoming the winter rays. It will be solar powered, have stainless steel water tanks and a compost toilet. Any timber used is from sustainable plantations or is milled from trees on site. So very, very exciting. In fact, this is a life long dream coming true!
So what will we have on offer for guests?
Since the property is so naturally gorgeous and already set up as a four-star resort we’re super excited to start creating retreats that allow people to get away for a weekend and unwind in comfortable cabins, relax in the extensive peaceful grounds, eat delicious organic food and be inspired about living in alignment with nature, permaculture and healthy living. We’ll offer daily yoga, organic meals, educational and practical permaculture workshops, and inspirational hands-on workshops on a variety of natural health topics – like natural skincare workshops, plus plenty of free time to visit the local area, taking in places like the Crystal Castle, local café Doma in Federal, quaint hippie vibed Mullumbimby, and of course the beaches of Byron Bay.
We will also create an intern program where a select handful of interns can stay for a 7 week period to learn about permaculture, get hands on experience in the garden, with an option to do extra study to gain a Permaculture Design Certificate at the end of their stay. It will also include a super duper lifestyle & wellness component where we will learn about so many things like food as medicine, making our own natural products, living a low-tox lifestyle, using our bodies – functional movement and yoga, and so much more! Imagine the skills learnt in this environment, the relationships forged and the personal changes possible! Too excited… and yes I will use multiple exclamation marks to show you how excited I am!!!!!!
If you want to be one of the first to find out when we launch our retreats and internships, send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org straight away! We are looking at end May/ June for our first round of interns! And end of June for our first eco-retreat!
